To learn to tie a fly only 2 things are needed: the desire to learn
and the willingness to try. It's rare to find someone who cannot
learn to tie a fly. If you can learn to tie a knot, you can learn
to tie a fly. Don't look at an expert tying a fully-dressed salmon
fly and think "I could never do that!" All experts start
out as beginners.
Learning to tie your own flies will elevate the sport of fishing
to an entirely new dimension for you. You'll lengthen your fishing
season if you tie flies through the winter. You will also widen
your knowledge of the natural environment as you learn to recognize
the organisms in a fish's diet and how to imitate them. You will
learn how to adapt flies to match variations that are a logical
response to local environmental conditions. And catching a fish
on a fly you have tied yourself provides a sense of satisfaction
that will double your fishing pleasure! So . . . why not give it
a try?
Classes take place at WILSON'S on Saturdays, 10 am to 1 pm.

You're not a novice fly-tyer. You've caught a mess of fish on Wooly
Buggers, Mickey-Finns, and Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ears you've tied and
you are proud of the flies you tie.
Nevertheless, when you try tying a feather streamer, the wings
don't always sit properly, no matter how much time you spend trying
to get them right. Or you look at an extended-body dry fly and wonder,
"How did someone do that?" These questions and others
like them are easily answered - if you know the right technique.
To be a proficient tyer you need to know how to assess a pattern
and choose the right materials and techniques required to create
a reasonable facsimile. Improving your tying skills will eliminate
hurdles that prevent you from tying more advanced patterns and your
confidence level on the stream will grow. So . . . what's holding
you back?
Classes take place at WILSON'S on Saturdays, 2 pm to 5 pm.
